Offshore Marine Scrubber Systems Industry News

  • In March 2022, Wärtsilä secured a contract to supply its exhaust gas cleaning systems to Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China for installation on two new 218-meter roll-on/roll-off passenger ships (RoPax). Each vessel will feature two 25-megawatt V-SOx based on hybrid scrubber technology as part of the agreement. This contract highlights Wärtsilä's commitment to the Asia-Pacific region, where it maintains regional resources to offer sales, support, and lifecycle services.

  • In December 2019, Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd. (Keppel O&M) has secured 104 retrofit orders for scrubbers and ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) for a total estimated value of S$160 million. With this, 108 scrubber and around 97 BWTS projects have been secured as total retrofit projects. The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) 2020 regulation, which caps the sulphur content of marine fuel at 0.5%, is the driving force behind the increased demand.
