Industrial Metal Electrical Conduit Market Size
The industrial metal electrical conduit market was valued at USD 3 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 5.17 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 5.6% from 2026 to 2035. According to the latest report published by Global Market Insights Inc., the recovery follows a revenue correction rather than a collapse in underlying installation activity. Metal conduit is becoming more closely tied to electrical-system complexity than to aggregate building starts alone. Data centers, semiconductor facilities, utility interconnections, and public infrastructure require protected routing in applications where specification, durability, and code compliance carry greater weight than lowest installed cost.
Industrial Metal Electrical Conduit Market Key Takeaways
Market Leader: Atkore International led with over 16.6% market share in 2025.
Leading Players: Top 5 players in this market include Atkore International, Zekelman Industries, Baolai Steel, Nucor Tubular Products, Tianjin Rainbow Steel, which collectively held a market share of 43.7% in 2025.
The market includes Rigid Metal Conduit (RMC), Galvanized Rigid Conduit (GRC), Intermediate Metal Conduit (IMC), and Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT). It measures demand-side revenue received by manufacturers and importers from sales into distribution channels and to end users. Flexible metal conduit, non-metallic conduit, standalone fittings, and cable trays are excluded. The 2025 estimate uses company-revenue aggregation, construction-intensity benchmarks, and capacity-based checks; the three approaches converged within 1% at the base year. Construction Put-in-Place data and electrical-contractor benchmarks support the top-down demand view.[1]U.S. Census Bureau. census.gov
GMI Analyst View
The market will recover on a volume-and-mix basis rather than through a return to the pricing conditions of 2022. EMT will absorb much of the commercial and data-center expansion, while GRC and IMC will retain the higher-protection work associated with grid, industrial, and fabrication projects. This distinction matters because it keeps the forecast dependent on the composition of capital spending, not merely its headline value. Through 2028, overlapping infrastructure disbursements and facility fit-outs will support above-trend demand. After 2031, replacement work in mature markets will matter more, while Asia Pacific and the Middle East and Africa will provide the incremental growth.
Key Drivers
Federal infrastructure outlays support demand because electrical routing is embedded in roadway, utility, water, transit, and broadband installations.[2]Federal Highway Administration. fhwa.dot.gov Data centers add a different demand profile: dense power distribution and frequent routing changes favor EMT, while higher-load runs raise demand for medium trade sizes. Construction data confirms a sharp rise in the data-center category through 2024. Semiconductor construction deepens this effect because cleanroom and precision-manufacturing environments need protected electrical distribution.[3]Semiconductor Industry Association. semiconductors.org
EV charging adds distributed feeder demand rather than a single large-project pattern. NEVI deployment extends that demand across highway corridors and electrical-contractor channels. India and other APAC markets add a second growth engine through industrial corridors, urban infrastructure, and manufacturing investment. The resulting demand is more durable when international project specifications require listed metallic conduit instead of lower-cost substitutes.
Key Restraints
Steel represents the dominant manufacturing cost for standard metallic conduit. Price movements therefore affect revenue and margin even when installation volume remains firm. The 2023 and 2024 market declines show this exposure, with steel price indexes declining as realized conduit prices reset.[4]U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. bls.gov PVC remains a credible substitute where local codes allow it and mechanical protection requirements are limited. The constraint is strongest in price-sensitive applications, not in environments that need metallic protection or specified grounding performance.
Import competition intensifies the pressure in common EMT sizes and export-oriented GRC categories. Chinese suppliers including Baolai Steel, East Steel Pipe, and Tianjin Rainbow Steel compete on cost, while US-listed and Buy America-eligible supply maintains an advantage in federally funded work. Import data identifies growing inflows of listed conduit products into the US market.[5]U.S. International Trade Commission. usitc.gov The restraint is therefore a margin issue before it becomes a broad demand issue.
GMI Analyst View
The forecast is not strictly additive: infrastructure, data-center, and industrial projects can overlap in the same contractor and distribution networks. Steel volatility will continue to distort reported revenue, but it does not erase the underlying need for protected electrical routing. The market’s central risk is mix dilution where commodity EMT competes against lower-cost imports or non-metallic alternatives. Through 2030, code-driven and specification-driven applications will protect the higher-value portion of demand better than the volume-heavy branch-circuit segment.
Industrial Metal Electrical Conduit Market Segment Analysis
By Trade Size
The ½-1" range led 2025 revenue with 38% share, followed by 1¼-2" at 32%. Smaller sizes dominate branch circuits in commercial, institutional, and light-industrial wiring, which creates stable baseline demand across building types. The 1¼-2" range carries feeder circuits from panels to sub-panels and large equipment, making it more exposed to data-center and fabrication investment. This is the revenue center of the market because higher conductor loads require more costly conduit and more demanding installation.
The 2½-3" range held 15% share in 2025 and serves industrial sub-distribution, transformer secondaries, and motor-control systems. The 3-4" range held 9%, while 5-6" held 4% and Others held 2%. Larger sizes are tied to utility interconnections, campus main service entrances, and high-load facilities rather than broad commercial fit-out. As renewable interconnection and large-scale power distribution expand through 2030, these ranges should gain strategic relevance despite their smaller current revenue base.
By Configuration
EMT led the market with 40% share, USD 1,200 million in revenue, and a 5.8% CAGR through 2035. Its thin-wall design and unthreaded fittings reduce installation effort in commercial buildings, data centers, and institutional projects. NEC Article 358 governs EMT applications, and wider permitted use supports its share position.[6]National Fire Protection Association. nfpa.org Nucor Tubular Products differentiates through electrogalvanized EMT and IMC, while Atkore’s Allied Tube & Conduit platform provides a broad North American channel presence.
GRC held 32% share and USD 960 million in 2025. Hot-dip galvanizing, mechanical strength, and outdoor suitability sustain demand in infrastructure and industrial applications governed by IEC and related standards.[7]International Electrotechnical Commission. iec.ch RMC held 15% share and USD 450 million, remaining essential in hazardous, direct-burial, chemical, and severe-exposure settings. IMC held 13% share and USD 390 million, offering a middle ground between RMC durability and EMT installation economics. Fränkische Rohrwerke’s Staro galvanized steel conduit line illustrates the specification-intensive European end of GRC demand, while TSI INOX CONDUIT serves stainless-steel specialty applications.
GMI Analyst View
Trade size and configuration increasingly move together. Larger feeder and service-entrance runs favor the mechanical protection offered by GRC, RMC, and IMC, while dense branch-circuit systems favor EMT. The second-order effect is a wider performance gap between suppliers able to provide a complete size-and-configuration range and exporters concentrated in the most commoditized sizes. Through 2035, EMT will remain the volume leader, but higher-specification conduit will continue to anchor industrial project value.
Industrial Metal Electrical Conduit Market Regional Analysis
North America
North America held 53% share and USD 1,590 million in 2025 and is projected to grow at a 5.0% CAGR through 2035. The United States, Canada, and Mexico are linked by integrated supply chains, but US demand remains the regional anchor. NEC-aligned practices, established distribution relationships, and IIJA-funded work reinforce metal conduit use. Atkore, Zekelman, and Nucor give domestic supply a strong position, although import competition is strongest in smaller EMT sizes. Canada adds stable industrial and resource-sector demand, while Mexico benefits from nearshoring investment.
Europe
Europe represented 16% share and USD 480 million in 2025, with a 4.5% CAGR through 2035. Germany, the UK, France, Italy, and Russia form the specified regional coverage, though Russia faces material market uncertainty. IEC-based specifications support rigid galvanized conduit in industrial and renovation work. Energy-efficiency renovation programs provide replacement demand as electrical systems are upgraded. Fränkische Rohrwerke and Eurotray address this market from different positions: the former through a dedicated galvanized conduit line and the latter through conduit within a broader cable-management portfolio.
Asia Pacific
Asia Pacific held 25% share and USD 750 million in 2025, with a 7.2% CAGR. China remains the largest regional market, although commercial real-estate weakness limits growth. India provides the strongest growth prospect as industrial corridors and manufacturing investment advance, while Japan, South Korea, and Australia sustain higher-specification demand. Local and export-oriented manufacturers, including Cat Van Loi, Southern Steel Pipe, Hangzhou Topele Electrical, and ELECMAN, are expanding the availability of listed product across the region.
Middle East & Africa
The Middle East and Africa held 4% share and USD 120 million in 2025 but has the highest forecast CAGR at 8.0%. Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and South Africa are the approved country focus. Gulf industrial and mega-project construction favors internationally specified GRC and RMC, while ITCC Group provides regional production capacity.
Latin America
Latin America accounted for 2% share and USD 60 million, with Brazil and Argentina forming the approved coverage. Mining, power, and industrial upgrades support demand, but investment variability limits visibility.
GMI Analyst View
Regional growth will remain divergent through 2035. North America will retain scale because code practices and distribution infrastructure support established suppliers, whereas Asia Pacific and the Middle East and Africa will contribute a larger share of incremental demand. The critical distinction is certification and specification convergence, not construction growth alone. Markets that adopt UL- or IEC-aligned requirements will favor suppliers that can document compliance and supply consistent trade-size ranges.
Industrial Metal Electrical Conduit Market Share & Competitive Landscape
Atkore International led the market with 16.6% share in 2025, followed by Zekelman Industries at 14.5%, Baolai Steel at 5.0%, Nucor Tubular Products at 4.6%, and Tianjin Rainbow Steel at 3.0%. The top five held 43.7% share. Atkore’s position rests on its Allied Tube & Conduit brand, full-range product coverage, and public financial transparency. Zekelman’s Wheatland Tube and Western Tube & Conduit brands provide a comparable North American manufacturing platform, although the private parent introduces estimation uncertainty.
Baolai Steel and Tianjin Rainbow Steel represent export-oriented Chinese competition, particularly in galvanized and standardized conduit categories. Nucor Tubular Products competes through its electrogalvanized EMT and IMC offering; Nucor Republic Conduit remains the legacy brand reference. Competitive positioning therefore divides among broad-line North American producers, Chinese cost-led exporters, European specification specialists, and regional manufacturers serving local-content or specialized applications.
GMI Analyst View
Competition will remain moderately concentrated at the top but fragmented across regions and specifications. Atkore and Zekelman control the strongest North American channel positions, while Nucor differentiates within a narrower product proposition. The long tail prevents a single global pricing structure because regional specialists and exporters compete under different code, freight, and certification conditions. Through 2030, consolidation is more likely to emerge through regional manufacturing expansion and distribution access than through a single global-scale acquisition.
