Yet tea remains the larger machinery pool, meaning suppliers cannot rely on coffee-format growth alone; they must also address tea bag conversion, loose-leaf filling, and secondary packaging upgrades.
The central investment tension is between higher specification and longer asset lives. Producers need equipment compatible with evolving materials and more varied stock-keeping units, but replacement decisions remain difficult to justify when installed machines continue to operate. Suppliers that reduce validation risk, offer retrofit paths, and support repeatable changeovers are therefore better positioned than those selling throughput alone.

The market benefits from two distinct purchasing triggers: volume-led capacity expansion and compliance-led equipment adaptation. Capacity projects are most visible in coffee pods, specialty tea, and fast-growing consumption markets. Compliance projects are more fragmented, often beginning with material testing, sealing adjustments, and selective retrofit work. Treating both as identical sources of growth would overstate near-term replacement demand.
Replacement cycles temper the effect of otherwise favorable consumption and sustainability indicators. The equipment supplier with the strongest position is likely to be the one that can convert a material or format problem into a staged upgrade program, preserving customer production continuity while creating a route to eventual line replacement. This makes service depth, application knowledge, and qualification support commercially material.
